Read the HUD at the table

Guide Updated 8 Oct 2026

What each part of a HUD panel means, and what a click, a right-click and a hover do.

Every player at your table gets a small panel. It is built to be read in a glance while you decide, and everything else is one hover, click or right-click away.

The parts of a panel

From left to right and top to bottom:

  • The colored edge down the left side is the player's color marker: Hero for you, and Regular, Recreational, Whale, Unknown or any marker you made for everyone else. See Tag players with color markers.
  • The name of the player.
  • The position (BTN, CO, UTG+1…) appears beside the name only on a positional HUD. See Use a positional HUD.
  • The hand count: how many hands the figures are based on, written short (777, 1K, 10K). A figure from 12 hands means much less than one from 2K.
  • The notes icon, and the − that collapses the panel (both explained below).
  • The figures, each with its short label underneath (VPIP, PFR, 3B…), laid out as you arranged them in the HUD Editor. A figure may be drawn in a color you chose for its range — see Color a statistic by its value.

A panel is dimmed while its player has folded or is sitting out, and it comes back to full strength at the next hand.

Hover a figure

Rest the pointer on any figure to see what it is: its name, what it measures and what it is counted over. If you added bars or a heat map to that statistic, the tip shows those instead — see See a statistic from every seat.

Click a panel

A click opens that player's popup, with the longer read you designed for it. It opens on Preflop; press a street's tab to read another street, or HANDS for the hands they took to showdown, if your popup has that tab. Close it with the close button. See Design a popup.

If a panel's edge looks faded and the pointer stays an arrow over it, that profile opens no popup, so a click does nothing.

Right-click a panel

The menu has:

  • Marker – set this player's color marker by hand, or choose None to clear it. It is not offered on your own panel.
  • Note this hand – a note tied to the hand being played right now. Available only while a hand is in progress at a site PokerLens follows live.
  • Note last hand – a note on the last finished hand this player was in.
  • Add a note – a note on the player alone.
  • Notes… – read everything you have written about them.

See Write a note from the felt.

The notes icon

  • Faint gray – no notes yet. The tip says No notes yet — right-click to add one.
  • Green with a number – how many current notes you have. Hover to read the latest one.
  • Amber – only old (stale) notes. You choose when notes go stale on the General settings page; it is a year unless you change it.

Click the icon to open the notes without opening the popup.

Collapse and expand

Click − at the top right of a panel to roll it up to just the name, for example when it covers the client's buttons. Click + to show the figures again. Panels of players who fold or sit out roll up by themselves; untick Collapse on fold under Options in the HUD Editor to stop that. Show on hover only keeps every panel hidden until you move the pointer over it.

When a table shows a notice instead of panels

  • "The stakes for this table exceed your license, please upgrade here." – the table is above your license's limits, so its hands are not being kept. here opens the License settings. See Small Stakes, Pro and your trial.
  • "Your license has ended, so no statistics are being drawn. Update your license here." – your trial or license has run out. here opens your profile.
  • "The HUD is running on your other machine. Bring it to this one here." – your account draws the HUD on another computer. here opens your profile, where Activate this machine brings the HUD here.

The icon at the top of the table

If you have more than one profile, an icon along the top of each table lets you switch that one table to another HUD. See Switch a table to another HUD.
